The East Devon coastal area has breathtaking scenery, attractive villages, an abundance of country and coastal walks and has easy access from both road and rail. Torbay may be the most popular but in recent years many visitors to the region have been searching for something different. The three main towns and cities defining this new Hot Spot are Exeter, Exmouth and Sidmouth. The Exe estuary is a place full of unspoilt beauty and at times a peaceful stillness - a wonderful place to see the sun set over Haldon Hill and Forest. There are several small towns and villages which have not yet been spoilt by tourism. Maintaining their traditional character and often historic nature they are excellent places of rest for the weary traveller. Not far are the cities of Exmouth and Exeter where the shopping centres and night life are found.

From Topsham in the North to Exmouth in the South is a wonderful train journey along the edge of the estuary. You can take in the views of the wonderful Devon Hills as they slope down to the river. The river is used for sailing and windsurfing at high tide because of its large expanse and at low tide you can the Avocets and other waders searching for food amongst the mud.
